“It’s weird when cops recognize me because often I think I’m in trouble and think that I’m gonna be arrested. And then they, uh, they tell me that they hate my character so… what?!… I love playing Gail Peck. She’s so much fun. People often ask questions about playing a rookie and it’s just so easy because they are green and they have no idea what they’re doing and they’re learning and that’s how I feel. This is my favorite quote, I’ve used this so much, but it’s my favorite quote in the entire world and it’s ‘I would rather be green because once you’re ripe, you start to rot’. I just think it’s perfect.”
(on playing Marilyn Monroe in The Kennedys) “That experience was the first time I had done research for a character - kinda going over her movements and her voice and it was the first time, in my entire life, where I felt like a real actress. It was for me, just as an artist, life-altering. I wanted to make her as real as possible. And there are so many things I identify with her. I mean, obviously I’ll never know who she really was but she was insecure about her craft, which I am. She had social anxieties and yet she entertained everyone. She kinda put on this like façade and I just get it, I totally understand feeling not good enough and needing to please.”
“I think as actors, what we’re sort of looking for… what it is at the end of the day is just about being yourself and I often get really, really, really shy in front of the camera and I’m not, even in some form, I’m really kind of not myself right now. I’m learning to get better at it but… just being you, because you are never to be repeated again in the history of humankind, so why not just be the most beautiful, authentic version of yourself?” (x)
